Our Love Story

Her Side of the Story

I met Alex on June 25, 2025, at the United States Naval Academy. I remember the moment clearly. He walked up to me and asked, “Are you from the Philippines?” I almost laughed. My nameplate literally said Philippines. It was such a bold and slightly suspicious question. But that was Alex. Confident, straightforward, and completely unafraid to start a conversation.

That summer, we both spent time in Hawaii. We were not close at first, just acquaintances who kept crossing paths. But somewhere between long days and quiet island evenings, something shifted. I found myself texting him often and waiting for him at the foc’sle. Sometimes for two hours or more. I would tell myself it was no big deal, but deep down, I knew I was hoping he would show up.

At the end of that trip, Alex told me he liked me. No grand gestures. No dramatic speeches. Just simple, sincere honesty.

In the weeks that followed, our story unfolded gently. We spent a weekend in Arlington. I met his parents after his baptism. We made memories on the Eastern Shore. What started as a simple conversation slowly became something steady and real.

Our relationship has never been perfect. We had to navigate cultural differences and yes, quite a bit of Pinoy tampo. But through it all, Alex has been my steady anchor. He humbles me. He brings me closer to God. He teaches me patience and grace. Most of all, he reminds me to appreciate life in the smallest, simplest ways.

What began with a simple question became a love story built on faith, growth, and quiet commitment.

And I will always be grateful that he chose to ask.
