Our Love Story

It all started with a phone call from a friend. While I was quietly listening, I tried to recognize who was on the other line, and I found out that it was her—the girl who was also my high school schoolmate. During their long phone call, I kept trying to get her attention and would even butt into their conversation since my friend was also her high school classmate.

And that’s where our love story began. I asked for her number and I made the first move. As usual, it started with text messages, but our story was cut short when we lost communication for several months. It only continued when she joined the Mutya ng Katipunan pageant. Of course, as a man, that was when I started to be captivated by her. Our paused story picked up again during her pageant practices—I would always show up, pretending to play volleyball at the plaza, but in truth, she was the real reason I was there.

Then came New Year’s Day, when I made my very first call to her. She was surprised, but that was where everything truly began. I started courting her, but she had rules—I needed to ask permission from her older sister. With God’s grace, I was granted permission, and so I began pursuing her.

Our story could be called a ‘hide and seek’ relationship because we kept it private and only told everyone later, saying we needed to focus on our goals first—charrr. I courted her for a long time, and I remember clearly that she always brought a chaperone whenever we went on dates. My courtship continued until one day, she gave me hope and told me that if I could wait until she finished her final examinations, she would say yes. So I waited for that moment, and on March 21, 2015, while we were watching a movie at KCC Mall, she finally said yes, and that’s when we officially became a couple.

Our sweet love story continued—we only celebrated monthsaries and anniversaries because daysaries and weeksaries weren’t a thing back then, hahaha. We went through fights, jealousy, and misunderstandings, but none of those ever broke us—not even the struggles only the two of us knew about. We rarely posted about our dates because we were still in that ‘hide and seek’ stage and preferred to keep things lowkey.

Our relationship was very chill in the beginning. We went on dates in different places like Baywalk, SMRAA, Balutan, and Pastilan, and we truly appreciated those moments. It wasn’t about how much things cost—what mattered most to us was the time we spent together. Then the moment came when we had to start a long-distance relationship because of my profession. People said that LDR wouldn’t work if you were weak, so we proved that we could handle being far from each other.

Eventually, she said yes again—this time when I asked her to marry me. Our engagement happened at Canada Beach Resort, where not everyone we loved was able to witness it. But in that moment, we showed that our love wasn’t just about the excitement of being boyfriend and girlfriend—we proved that forever is real. And now, as time goes on, our love grows deeper and sweeter, continuing toward eternity.
