Proof That the Right One Comes Unexpectedly

Our love story is proof that the right person doesn’t always arrive when you’re looking—but when you’re ready.

It all began in 2018 at DFA Bacolod, while I was processing my passport. Someone casually recommended Harley. I was 25 then, uninterested, and unaware that life had just planted a seed.

Fast-forward to 2021. Tita—Yvonne’s niece—followed up and asked if I was still single.
“Yes,” I said, jokingly, “I’ve been single since birth.”

Deep inside, I believed one thing: if he truly wanted me, he would reach out himself. On his side, it was Tito who consistently followed up on him. On mine, it was Tita, Yvonne’s niece, who never stopped following up on me.

The next day, Harley sent me a friend request on Instagram.

We started talking in October 2021—on his birthday. For the first time, I changed my routine. Late-night talks replaced early nights. Everything felt unfamiliar, yet right. I made a promise to myself then: if I were to be in a relationship, it would be him. No next. No other. My first and my last.

April 22, 2022—our first meeting and first date. It felt as if we had known each other for years.
April 23, 2022—our first trip together to Moalboal.
April 24, 2022–we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend.
May 13–15, 2022—our second trip to Tagaytay.
June 1, 2022—our third trip, Costabella in Lapu-Lapu. He even extended his vacation just to stay longer in Cebu.

Then came Luna—and with her, unstable emotions and one of the hardest seasons of my life. Karen and my family took care of me due to hyperemesis gravidarum. Two emergency visits. Dextrose at home, with my OB’s approval and my sister’s nursing care.

In the midst of it all, I stopped talking to him—for three months.

Until one day, my sister Nora handed me her phone and insisted I talk to Harley. During that call, he told me about a coworker who had an accident. Suddenly, fear crept in—not just for the story he told, but for him. I realized I was afraid of losing him. Afraid of what could happen to him.

That’s when it hit me.

I stopped. I thought.
I love him.

Everything we went through shaped us.
We were tested.
Our principles were questioned.
Our priorities shifted.

But through it all, love remained—quiet, patient, and real.

And that’s how I knew: the right one doesn’t always come early or loudly. Sometimes, he comes unexpectedly—and stays.
