Our Love Story

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11

It all began with simple words "Jo, param cellphone, maki-text kumu at paload keng textmate ku". A simple text sent by a best friend named Maribeth accidentally connected two people who didn’t know they were meant to find each other. The boy on the other end turned out to be the cousin of another close friend, Jerlin. What started as simple messages slowly became friendship, then the soft excitement of young love.

On June 4, 2011, right after high school graduation, they officially became a couple—quietly and secretly, careful under the watchful eyes of a strict father. But with college ahead for her and work calling for him, they chose to let go after three weeks, believing it was the right thing to do. Yet some connections never truly fade. On October 12, 2012, he showed up at her 18th birthday debut carrying a container of ube ice cream and enough courage to meet her family. The next morning, he was found in the garage washing heavy pots and pans from the celebration—an unspoken promise of sincerity and care.

From 2013 to 2014, he pursued her properly. He waited for her at SM Tarlac after work or on his days off, making sure she always got home safe. His patience and consistency spoke louder than words. On June 5, 2014, at 12:30 PM in their living room, she said yes again—this time openly, with both families’ blessing.

Life moved forward. She graduated and he work hardly, they built careers and started small businesses together. Then on August 29, 2020, during the quiet heaviness of the pandemic, a serious accident shattered their world and felt like that's the end of everything. When hope felt thin, her brother’s words brought clarity: “Will you really surrender now, when you need each other the most?” That moment led them back to prayer, to faith, and to trusting God over their own strength.

On June 8, 2023, after her Masteral graduation, he knelt and asked her to marry him. She said yes without hesitation. Even when distance followed and he had to work abroad, they waited and prayed, trusting God’s timing.

Now, after almost twelve years of laughter, tears, text mates, ube ice cream, long-distance prayers, quiet sacrifices, storms, and grace, the waiting ends. In the presence of God and the people who witnessed their journey, they are finally ready to say:

“I do.”
